I'm still playing catch up with my shop. I had that Colors of Fall craft show at the end of September, so I was waiting until that was over to take all the pictures and list all the items that I banged out for that. No sense in taking pictures and listing them in case some of it sold. At the craft fair I sold several new pieces, but was left with many to list, oh what a process!

Here's some of my most recent listings... mostly glass tile pendants, but I have some of that wire crochet that people love and a sterling silver wire wrapped howlite necklace, and another bottle cap pendant. I listed a beaded zodiac necklace, called What's Your Sign, that sold within a couple hours of listing too! August Projects

Peridot is the theme of August in my Project a Month calendar, which gives a pattern for a double stranded peridot necklace. I like the color green, but for some reason, peridot doesn't do it for me, so I made a few things this month that were more my style.

I love fresh water pearls, and picked up a couple strands at the local bead shop - one gold colored, and the other a pearly olive green. I had enough pearls to make two necklaces.

This necklace below was crocheted with gold colored copper wire. It is a single crochet stitch threading on alternating green and gold fresh water pearls. A hook and eye clasp were made with matching wire. I worked the wire to give it a vine-like appearance, hence the name "Pearly Euonymus Vine." Euonymus fortunei, also known as 'Emerald 'n Gold' is a plant with yellow edged green leaves, and can grow as a shrub or a vine. Click the image or title for more information.

With the left over pearls I made a second necklace incorporating a gold wire wrapped green glass pendant. If it were for sale, I'd name it "Sour Apple", but I decided that the little one bead-drop in the pattern was a sign that I was supposed to be the owner of this necklace. I have funky and casual jewelry to wear with green, but nothing that nice. I'm sure nobody will notice the tiny mistake, and I like it too much to take it apart and start over.

The third thing I've made this month is this double stranded necklace, called "The Blues." I wrapped a heart shaped glass pendant with silver colored copper wire. The two strands are made with shades of blue, periwinkle, and aqua; the inner strand has some silver liquid twist beads. I think the pendant is sea glass, but I got it from a miscellaneous bin of beads, pendants, and stones at a bead store on my trip to Lake Placid earlier this summer, so I can't say for sure. My New Toy

I bought a new toy the other day with my A.C. Moore coupon. This is my anvil. Anvils provide a flat hard surface for hammering metal and wire for jewelry making. It also has horns on the side for shaping wire.

I'm in the process of wire wrapping some stones that I got in Key West, and I've been playing with some new techniques. Eventually I'd like to wrap some stones with flattened copper and sterling silver wire. Unfortunately, I have found that colored wire chips to the copper base when hammered.

What I was able to do with my new toy, however, was perfect my wire bird nests, at least at a smaller scale. The horn on the side is perfectly round and increases in diameter; while the bird nests are smaller in size, they are more uniform in shape. I made so many I'm trying to come up with ways to use them all!

The smaller size makes them less appropriate for a necklace pendant, but I found they are the perfect size to weave onto a wire crochet bracelet. Perhaps a pair of matching earrings will appear in my shop in the future.




The bracelet its self is two rows of double crocheted brown colored copper wire, Artistic Wire brand. I got a tip that Artistic Wire has less than 200 ppm of lead. After contacting someone in their customer service department, I got confirmation - its actually less than 6 ppm of lead!

The nests were made with matching wire of the same brand, just a smaller gauge, and of course my new anvil. A teal fresh water pearl is attached. The hook clasp is made with the same wire so that it matches completely. The nests and small teal beads were woven through the bracelet. The great thing about wire crochet is that you can manipulate the length a little. the bracelet in the picture is 6.5" long, but can be stretched out to about 7.25" long.
